Flow

When we think of flow, we think of water flowing in streams and rivers, we think of the eb and flow of life in ourselves and in all living things around us. We even think of the flow of traffic when we are moving swiftly along the highway. We think of the flow of air as it moves clouds around the sky.

When we plan and strategize on how to reach our goals, we put a lot of things into motion. Sometimes we struggle, we fight to make things happen. As much as we want to manifest something now, right now! Yet, nothing happens. Understand that the universe has heard you, it is heard what you are trying to manifest and things are moving.

There is a certain cadence to life and all things we try and create, when Flow appears in the cards, it means it is time to be steady, to let the eb and flow of life move you and your plans forward. There is a time to strive and a time to rest, now is the time to rest.

If you continue to try pushing forward, life will become like a piece of string. String can be pulled behind your or beside you and it can be tried to something you want to be secured to but it cannot be pushed.

Whatever obstacle is in front of you right now, trust this is for the highest good. It is an opportunity to regroup and reconsider your choices, and you must trust that your intentions will take form in good time. Believe this time is a gift.

The Rainbow

The Rainbow includes all the colours of the 7 Chakras that exist in all living things.

The ephemeral rainbow is a representation of the bridge between this physical world and the worlds of spirits. The Shaman walks up the rainbow to the upper world of benevolent spirits to learn and experience the higher, Upper Realm. It is there he or she learns from the spirits so that they may help people and animals here in the Middle world.

The rainbow affirms that all is well and that you are in right relationship with Spirit.

The rainbow comes after a storm, when the bright warming sunlight pierces the still water laden atmosphere and shows all of its beauty. It is also a message to persevere, persevere in what you are doing. Remember that saying that it is darkest just before the dawn.

Do not give up hope; things are about to take a positive turn. Listen for the morning rooster that announces the coming of the dawn even while the night is still darkest.

Now is not the time to claim victory or let your guard down. Remember the story about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. No one has ever found it. This story tells you about illusion. Trust and only work with things that are tangible, there are no short cuts to good things that are coming to you.

The Beloved

We all have a soul mate on this world, someone who completes us. Like a piece of a jig saw, when a missing piece is found and put in place, it reveals more of the big picture that we are trying to complete.

To recognise our soul mate and the spirit in them that completes us, we first have to recognise it in ourselves. When we do that, we understand the love of ourselves and of them.

This energy is an invitation to learn and understand through love. Expand your spirit through union with another.

But be careful of romantic love, because this can be an illusion. When we “fall in love” we maybe projecting our hopes and dreams of love on another who is not our soul mate and does not fill the need we have to find that missing jig saw piece. If we fail to notice they are not a good fit for us but instead continue with the illusion be prepared to walk through the fire of strong emotions and sense of loss.

Buddhism first entered Mongolia during the Yuan Dynasty of the thirteenth and fourteenth century and was briefly established as a state religion. Mongolia itself was at a political and developmental standstill until the sixteenth century, after which the conversion of Altan Khan to Buddhism re-established itself. [1]

Yellow shamanism is the term used to designate a particular version of shamanism practiced in Mongolia and Siberia which incorporates rituals and traditions from Buddhism. Most Buddhists there belong to what is called the “Yellow sect” of Tibetan Buddhism, because the members wear yellow hats during services. There are also refences to Yellow Shamanism being linked to the Saffron coloured robes of Buddhist monks.  The term also serves to distinguish this form of shamanism from those not influenced by Buddhism, according to their adherents, who are  mostly “black shaman”.[2]

During this time, Lamaists[3] divided shamans into two categories: Black and Yellow. “Black” shamans were those who kept the old shamanic traditions, and Yellow shaman.[4] [5] Yellow Shaman were those who are controlled by Buddhist Lamas, and practice shamanic rituals and traditions in conjunction with Tibetan Buddhism.

As far as Yellow Shamanism and Mongolia is concerned, there is an argument of whether the practice continues to exist. Mongolia was part of Communist Russia from 1924 until the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. During this period, known as the Communist era, all religious activities, their practitioners, and adherents, regardless of form were persecuted. Iconography, manuscripts and places of worship were destroyed and practitioners often killed.

The same process of persecution and destruction was followed in Tibet by Communist China with the worst occurrences of destruction to monasteries and places of religious worship, persecution and killing of shamans and Buddhists took place under Mao Zedong during the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

The melding of shamanism and Buddhism started in the thirteenth century and comes after the merging of shamanism and the indigenous Bon Religion of Tibet. Bon is an ancient religion, dating back 3,800 years. Bon and shamanism closely influenced each other over many thousands of years. The ending of animal sacrifice during Shaman rituals being attributed to Bon.

Bon traditions were absorbed into Tibetan Buddhism along with those of shamanism. Bon is still practiced today. In 1978, the Dalai Lama acknowledged Bon as the sixth principal spiritual Buddhist school of Tibet.

This gives Tibetan Buddhism the unique characteristics it has today where astrology and divination are present and Buddhist Lamas will enter An Altered State of Consciousness in the same way a shaman does during healing ceremonies.

It is argued that Yellow Shamanism does not exist today due to a combination of persecution and absorption of its shamanistic traditions into Bon and ultimately Tibetan Buddhism.

The Corn

Corn is sustenance, we eat the kernels and use the rest of the plant to build things and to make fire to warm our homes and cook the kernels. Everything about Corn is abundant, it helps us and is tangible.

Corn is prosperity in the real, physical world. There is more than enough to go around.

We work hard to plant new ideas, and we hope they will grow and give us goodness and abundance in the future. Even when thigs are difficult, we have not lost faith in what we have planted. We have kept going.

Now is the time to reap the rewards of effort, and trust. Regardless of whether the rewards are financial or the kind of prosperity measured in quality rather than quantity. Now is the time to feel blessed but don’t forget to share your good fortune.

As we anticipate good fortune and abundance be careful! Do not try to rush the harvest of abundance. Get rich quick schemes and shortcuts will not help, they may damage the things you have planted.

Let go of thoughts and fears of scarcity and not having enough or that someone will steal your abundance. Understand that the universe will provide, but you must be in a relationship with it in order to receive. You will reap what you sow.

The Time Master

Humanity perceives time as moving linearly, a straight line from birth to death. Even when we look at our watches, we see the hands moving around the face in a steady, even progression of minutes, hours and days. This linear view leads us to the feeling that there is not enough time. We are always referring to something that has a finite ending.

In reality, time does not move in a linear path, when we are in the NOW, in the moment, we can see all of time, the past, present and future. In that moment, at any moment, you can see time in all its infinite potential, one vast and all-encompassing flow and then shrunken and finite. It all depends on perspective.

The Time Master asks you to think about how you perceive time and everything it represents. Will you break free from your limited cause-and-effect thinking. Will you move beyond linear illusion, and be able to welcome the cyclic quality of time?

If you can look beyond the linear view of time and take back your power, let go of the past so you can step fully into your life. In this moment you are all-powerful. Anything is possible now.

Sometimes it appears time is ebbing away from us, there Is not enough. You fear that as time runs away from you your plans hoes and desires will also elude you. But this is a perception of your mind. If you are fully part of NOW you will be able to release thoughts, emotions and failed dreams from the past so you are better able to see and expect the future.

It is in the NOW that the magic of time and your hopes and dreams reveal themselves. Relax and they will appear directly in front of you and nothing else. When you realize you have all the time in the world. You will never run out of it!

Middle World

The shaman sees the Middle world, the physical world, this world. The shaman also sees the Upper world of benevolent spirits and knowledge. The shaman sees the Lower and Underworlds of malevolent spirts. Yet all worlds are a source of knowledge and learning.

The middle world is our realm, it is what we perceive as our day-to-day reality, and the playground of the living. It is the present moment, where everything is happening. When all is right in the middle world, we feel supported and happy, things go well. When they are not, we have to ask ourselves and a shaman to help bring them into balance and order.

This energy appears when it is right to start something or restart something that has stopped. Because this energy is so positive, now is not a time for hesitation. Seize the moment but to not be reckless or careless. Be purposeful and thoughtful as you move forward. The world is your playground, and what would require great effort at any other time can be accomplished with ease right now.

White Shaman work with spirits of the upper world and obtained their magical power from a westerly direction, the home of the benevolent deities and spirits. White shaman direct prayers to the Western Heavens.[1]

They are shamans of peace and have a special relationship with the spirits of nature. Their main focus is on pacifying angry spirits and helping mankind to live in balance with nature. White shamans also do divination, blessings and healing. One thing that they cannot do is shaman’s curse. [2] That is the dolman of the Black Shaman.

During the Mongol Empire, while Black shamans dealt with foreign affairs, White shamans dealt with local affairs and served as administrators and concerned themselves with the day to day lives of the people.

They operated at a tribal level almost exclusively as healers and diviners and they only had dealings with beneficent entities. It was their role to pacify angry or evil spirits, exorcise them if they possessed human beings and help the tribe live in harmony with their natural environment and the spirit world.

Today Buddhist influences, trappings, and style appear in the rituals of white shaman. Some chants are of Buddhist origin and White shamans burn incense instead of the wild plants that Black shamans burn. [3]

The white and black shamans, the Buryat say, fight with each other, hurling axes at one another from distances of hundreds of miles. White shaman serves the West, Tengri, and are in charge of ceremonies held at birth, marriage etc. The White Shaman wears a white coat and rides a white horse. A famous white shaman was Barlak, at who’s grave his descendants still go to worship.[4]

White shamans do not use drums, but instead have a wooden staff and ring bells during ceremonies. White shamans also do not wear the antlered headdress of the Black shamans, but instead wear a cape called a nemerge.[5]

During the 17th and 19th centuries, some white shaman acquiesced to the control of Lamaists and became Yellow shaman, other did not and were incorrectly categorised as Black shaman. It was not until the fall of the Soviet Union and the freedoms that Mongolia and other parts of Siberia have enjoyed that White Shamans were recognised again in their own right.

Thunder

Tengri, the great God of the Mongol Sky speaks in ways that cannot be misunderstood. Thunder is a wake-up call. A call to be alert and be prepared as the tensions in the sky are realised so dramatically. Do you have relationships, friendships, or acquaintances that have been under stress?

Now is the time to release those tensions and everyone live life in a more relaxed manner. Thunder is dramatic and releasing tensions can be dramatic, one of your challenges is not to allow the thunder in what you are releasing, destroy what it is you hoped to save.

Thunder also speaks to opportunity, it is arriving in your life, perhaps more than once and the effect can have will be dramatic. Now is the time to prepare for the great adventures that will be coming to you.

Be ready to learn abouto use them. You need to be prepared to run with them. Stand ready to be flexible, dexterous, and open to the experiences coming to you. Now is the time to look out over the sea and see your ships all coming in to port. Be ready to unload them.

This card is a repeat of last week. It is a message sent to you to say that nothing has changed, the message from last week has not been heard by you, so, it is repeated. Pay Attention!

The Rainbow

The rainbow only exists because of the Sun. The light of the sun shines through the water left in the air after a storm to make something bright, sunny, hopeful, and magical.

The colours in the rainbow include the colours of the Chakras that exist in each one of us. The chakras conduct and manage the energy in our bodies and our souls. In the high mountains of the Himalayas a rainbow is recognised as the full realization of our essence.

The brilliance of a rainbow is that it marks the end of a storm, a difficult period in your life. Remember to carry on as you have, as they say, it is darkest before dawn.

The rainbow is a bridge between the spiritual world and the physical. Shamans climb a rainbow to the upper world to speak with and learn from spirts beneficial to mankind as part of their healing process. A rainbow appears as a message to affirm all is well and that you are in right relationship with Spirit.

The rainbow is a message not to celebrate too early, victory, success, happiness or whatever it is you are trying to manifest which has not arrived. Do not get fascinated by an illusion of a pot of gold. No one has ever found the post of gold at the end of the rainbow, so enjoy what you have, and those around you

The Smoky Mirror

When we look in a modern mirror our refection is sharp and clear, free of distortion. The reflection is precise and we are happy. But centuries ago, that as not the case, even glass mirrors had many imperfections and the surface was uneven. Metal mirrors were hammered into shape and even less perfect, all of the old mirrors reflected less light, and hid many imperfections that today, we can see.

The Smoky Mirror is like an old mirror, things are reflected back to us lacking clarity. Things that we look for in the mirror are hidden by its imperfection. This is not a mistake. This is not entirely the result of the imperfect nature of the old mirror. It is because what you are looking for in the mirror is hidden from you and for a reason.

The time for those things to be revealed is not now. The journey of a thousand miles starts with one foot step says the old Chinese proverb. Understand that as the mirror improves, things will become clearer.

Shamanism is the oldest religion on the planet!

In terms of human existence, it predates current day organized religions by tens of thousands of years. European cave paintings and carvings showing shaman date from the Paleolithic[1] era, also called the Old Stone Age. The Old Stone Age is a period in human prehistory marking the development of stone tools and covers 99% of human technological prehistory. It extends from the earliest known use of stone tools by hominins c. 3.3 million years ago, Graves of shaman 12,000-year-old and older have been discovered in Israel and the Czech Republic.[2]

In this podcast we explore the original shaman, mainly in Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia.

The tradition says the First Shaman was both a Divine Being and human. Sent by the Creator, their role on earth was to create a bridge of knowledge, understanding, and awareness between The Creator, and humans.

The knowledge and understanding imparted by the First Shaman to mankind included what is necessary to survive, hunting, farming, family, and tribe. The First Shaman taught humanity how to learn and evolve, how to improve themselves, and improve their connection to the environment around them. By teaching humans how to understand their own, individual spirit, humans are better able to form family relationships, friendships, and live in a state of coexistence with others they encounter but do not know.

The First Shaman brokered the ability for select humans, male or female, young or old to become Shaman in their own right. To be a Shaman in a tribe or community, the Shaman must be able to serve the people as well as understand how to conduct and perform the required rituals, ceremonies, and be able to connect to the spirit world. They must be able to bring messages from the spirit world to the physical, human world.

The principles and beliefs of Shamanism are obligations the human Shaman has accepted as integral to their life and like a path through the woods, they need to stay on the path, grow and develop. Straying from the path may mean they become lost, things become difficult and the transaction of faith between the Shaman and their community or tribe becomes broken.

Being a Shaman is not the sole domain of Indigenous people. Just as there is no restriction on age, or gender, there is no restriction on ethnic background.

To be a Shaman is a unique and special path, to walk that path a new shaman will become aware of signs to show them the path they are meant to be on.

The Shaman path brings with it various supernatural abilities if the shaman is young, or has latent abilities these will be activated by cosmic energy. These abilities included but are not limited to psychic dreaming, astral projection, interdimensional travelling, third eye opening to see lower spirits and higher dimensional spirits and the ability to fight the strongest entities that cause havoc.[3]

1        The Shaman is a Healer and Guide

The shaman is a healer. This is their principal role in the tribe, the community.

They have access to, and influence in, the world of benevolent and malevolent spirits. Using this ability, the shaman enters a trance state during a ritual, and practices divination

to understand what is required to heal their client.

Soul journeying to understand what and why a person was ill and journeying to spirits that will help return health to the physical person is their primary and most essential role.

2        The Shaman is an Oracle

Shaman were and still are astrologers and Oracles. Everyone, especially tribal leaders want to know what the future will bring. Will it bring war, will they be successful in the struggle? Will crops and animal husbandry be successful. Will the tribe merge with another though marriage?

Historically, Oracles, divination and Astrology were a feature of Bon religion in pre-Buddhist Tibet. The Bon cosmology was divided into three worlds.

  1. The upper world of the gods.
  2. An intermediate world of spirits, of subtle beings.
  3. The solid or physical world we know as the earth.

Bon held the spirit or soul of an individual exists as energy which humans are able to contact. For example, humans are able to connect with physical things such as food, a chair and other people. On the spiritual level they are able to connect with other spirits and those on the different levels or worlds.

When Buddhists brought Buddhist Dharma to Tibet, they assimilated the Bon world view into their own because Buddhism holds the view. The Buddhist world exists in three parts: one solid, one psychic and one mental.

3        Shaman Continuity

They were the spiritual leader of a group or tribe. The belief and practice of Shamanism incorporates a range of beliefs, customs, ceremonies and rituals regarding communication with the spiritual world. The Shaman, enters these supernatural realms particularly when the tribe is facing adversity or need to obtain solutions to problems afflicting the community including sickness.[4]

They provided continuity to the tribe and a reliable connection to the spirit world. In this way they were a conduit between the worlds.

They were an educator of people about the spirit world as well as about medicines and herbs and natural healing solutions all around them. They kept the tribal stories, myths and essential tribal wisdom that made the tribe they belonged to unique.

They passed down understanding of trance states, how to induce them and how to control them. Their clothing, symbolic regalia and objects were passed down to enrich subsequent generations of shaman.

They are the keepers of tradition, ancient texts, books, and scripts as well as way things should be done. Songs, dances, music, and observance are also carried forward from shaman to shaman within the tribe.

Shamans usually have expert knowledge of medicinal plants native to their area, and an herbal treatment is often prescribed. It is believed shamans learn directly from the plants, harnessing their effects and healing properties, after obtaining permission from the indwelling or patron spirits.[5]

4        The Shaman as Protector

One of a shaman’s main functions is to protect individuals from hostile supernatural influences.

The shaman may act as psychopomp.[6]

Psychopomp literally means “guide of souls.” There are creatures, spirits, angels, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls from Earth to the afterlife. They do not judge the deceased, but simply to guide them. Appearing frequently on funerary art, psychopomps have been depicted at different times and in different cultures as anthropomorphic entities, horses, deer, dogs, whip-poor-wills, ravens, crows, vultures, owls, sparrows and cuckoos.[7]

The Sun

The sun is the brightest card in the deck. It can be beautiful to gaze at during sunrise and sunset and it can be burningly hot at midday. As we move from the shortest day at the Winter Solstice, days start to grow longer and we expect warmth to envelope us.

As the days grow longer, so do our hopes and plans for the spring, summer and fall. We anticipate and we enjoy seeing animals start to come out and be more active. Our passions and energy start to rise and we feel reenergized and reborn. Now is the time to enjoy the brighter days and the brighter things in your life.

Brighter things in your life include the night, rest, relaxation and sleep. These are valuable and tend to be lost during the long dark evenings of winter. If you have been working hard, take a moment to rest up and enjoy the evenings and the joys that rest bring us.

Flow

When we think of flow, we think of water flowing in streams and rivers, we think of the eb and flow of life in ourselves and in all living things around us. As much as we want to manifest something now, right now! Yet, nothing happens. Understand that the universe has heard you, it is heard what you are trying to manifest and things are starting to move even if you cannot see or feel them.

String can be pulled behind your or beside you and it can be tied to something you want secured, but it cannot be pushed.

Whatever obstacle is in front of you right now, trust this is for the highest good. It is an opportunity to regroup and reconsider your choices, and you must trust that your intentions will take form in good time. Be in the NOW and consider this moment to be a gift.
